Vermilion Cliffs, Navajo Bridge and Antelope Canyon

Previous: Day 3 - Grand Canyon National Park - North Rim

Day 3 (part 2) of road trip.

From Highway AZ-67, we took right on Highway 89A towards Page. I had read about this route being very scenic and we were thrilled as we came across stunning cliffs along this route.

Here is first one (I forgot the name of the place).

As we moved along, we kept coming across beautiful views until we hit Vermilion Cliff and I was totally mesmerized by the view and got a feeling of absolute joy:

Our next stop (within few mins) was Navajo Bridge (apparently only bridge which crosses Colorado river. It was also a very nice 30 mins stop. There is one bridge for traffic and other for pedestrian. We parked our car and took a walk on the pedestrian bridge. There were stalls for selling Native Americans selling jewelry (this was a very common sight throughout AZ trip - in Navajo area).

Here is a view of Colorado river from the bridge.

After Navajo bridge, we stated towards Page AZ. It seems a section of Highway 89A gave away (in Feb 2013) and a detour had to be taken reach Page. While on the way, I was trying to find out what time is tour of Antelope Canyon. Bought 'Navajo Times' newspaper on the way to Page but it had no information. We reached Page around 3PM and directly checked into hotel. I search for Antelope canyon tour on Google and came across a site which had phone number. It seems the next tour was at 3:30PM (it was 3:16pm as I was talking to the tour guide). I told him that I'll be there before that (google map was showing only 5-6 mins drive). Came out of hotel quickly and just made in time for the tour (another 2 mins and we probably would have missed the tour :).

We went to Upper Antelope Canyon and thoroughly enjoyed this place (a MUST see place). The Navajo tour guide was very knowledgeable about the canyon (and photography). He gave tons of suggestions on how to take good photographs. There were lot of folks with SLR cameras and they got mostly awesome shots (I was shooting with phone camera which was just 'ok' for this place :).

We saw the place at leisure (took about 2 -2.5 hours). It is hard to describe this place but I felt extremely lucky to get to see Antelope Canyon. Here is a photograph of entrance as we boarded the tour truck:

Once we reached back in town, it was getting little cold (also open tour truck added to this feeling :) and we were feeling quite hungry (did not have lunch during the day) and straight away went to a Mexican restaurant rent near the tour office. Had awesome food and that nicely ended an absolutely fun packed day.

I was thinking of visiting Horse Shoe Bend in Page in the morning. But as I read more about Monument Valley (there were comparisons to Grand Canyon and Yosemite), I decided to skip Horse Shoe bend on this trip and decided to leave for Monument Valley in the morning.
