Grand Canyon National Park - North Rim

Previous: Day 2 - Death Valley National Park

Day 3 of road trip.

We stayed with our approach of starting early from hotel to maximize our outdoor in sunlight. Had our breakfast in hotel at Hurricane and started for Grand Canyon North rim (had done a trip to South Rim in 2012 summer). Before starting, I was regularly checking for road conditions update to make sure we can go (the park was going to close any day for winter). Here is how it looked outside the hotel as we started.

GPS showed about 2 hours travel to North rim. As we started, shortly we hit heavy fog and I was little anxious if we will be able to see anything but I continued. After some 30 mins driving, the fog was gone and it was all back to normal. The road leading to Grand Canyon was heavenly and there was no one around to see all this beauty (I'll understand the reason about an hour later :).

The whole area was covered in beautiful white snow . Got to see a deer as well in the snow.

Look closer for a Deer standing in the snow :)

Car showed a temperature of 16F outside and we felt that we need to get out and feel this cold. It was a beautiful sunny day with absolutely no wind. Stayed out for few mins and took some pictures before starting further. Highway AZ-67 was cleaned up and had no snow till about the entrance of the park. Once inside the park, there was snow everywhere (including the road). We slowly drove and made it to the visitor center (which was already closed for the season).

As we reached the park, I could see only 2 other cars. One group approached me and asked where is the glass bridge over the Grand canyon. It seems they were supposed to go to West Rim but inadvertently have come to North Rim :) I told them that West Rim is several hours away from this place.

We wanted to first see Bright Angel point which was highly recommended on TripAdvisor. But where is it? All the trails were covered by snow

As everything was closed, we had to do some guesswork and jumping over ropes to finally get to this point.

After spending some good 30 mins and taking numerous photographs we returned back to visitor center area. Here are summer time cabins for stay:

We walked along the Birdie trail for sometime and took some more photographs of the Canyon.

After spending some more time at the park, we decided to start for next stop which was Page, AZ.

Next: Day 3 (part 2) - Vermilion Cliffs, Navajo Bridge and Antelope Canyon
