Kings Canyon & Sequoia National Parks
Day 1 of Road trip.
We started early (at 6AM) from our home in Fremont. The weather for Kings Canyon was showing as partially cloudy. Along the way, we hit a dense fog which continued for several miles (I thought this is how its gonna be in the park) but it disappeared quite quickly. We had breakfast at McDonald's on the way and reached Kings Canyon Park around 10:30AM.
We directly went to the Grant Grove village visitor center and picked up the park guide/map. After that, we were on to our first point which was to General Grant Tree. After parking the car, we took the 0.3m long trail going through amazing Sequoias.

Have you walked through a tree? You can do it on this trail. We Walked through this huge tree which must have fallen long back. After spending about 45 mins on this trail, we took highway towards King Canyon Lodge to experience the park from different view points. The road after Kings Canyon Lodge was closed during winter season. Here is view from Junction Point.
Our next stop was Hume Lake, here is shot of the same:
After this point, we made our way towards Sequoia National Park. There is one road, Generals Highway, which connects both Parks. Here we took the trail to see worlds largest tree by volume Generals Sherman Tree.
We had been to Mariposa Grove area in Yosemite National Park and hence were quite familiar with feeling of walking among Sequoias. This was another opportunity to experience these giant trees.
Next stop - Giant Forest Museum - a very nice place to spend good 20-30 mins. Once done, we decided to go to Moro Rock although it was getting little foggy. By the time, we made it to Moro Rock, it became so foggy it was hard to see beyond few feet. So we decided to abandon our ascent to top of Rock midway and returned back to parking lot. I had to rely on GPS to understand where the road was (as it was a very dense fog). It was close to 3:30pm and we decided to start for our hotel (which was good 3.5 hours away - Ridgecrest, CA).
It took us about 1 hour to come out of the park ( towards Three Rivers). Road was really nice but most often you could drive at 10-15 miles per hour as road kept turning every few meters. We made out of the park before sunset and reached hotel around 8:30pm.
Next : Day 2 - Death Valley National Park
